For those of you who want to root your Samsung Galaxy S4 Android smartphone, here’s how to do it easily using MotoChopper, a root script used on Motorola Qualcomm devices.
This root method will work on all Qualcomm-based Galaxy S4 running Android 4.2.2 such as AT&T SGH-i337, T-Mobile SGH-M919, Sprint SPH-L720, Verizon SCH-i545, US Cellular SCH-R970, Canadian SGH-i337M, Rogers, Bell, Telus, and other Qualcomm S4s.
For Verizon S4 SCH-i545, you will need to flash a pre-release kernel before following this tutorial and also re-flash stock kernel, see here for details FIRST!
UPDATE: For those of you with T-Mobile’s latest UVUAMDL firmware or Sprint’s latest VPUAMDL firmware, this root method will not work. BUT, you can use CWM or TWRP method below along with kernel fix to root. (See Sprint Kernel fix and T-Mobile Kernel fix)
For Octa-core GT-i9500 root method, see the CWM Root Method instead. (Also AT&T SGH-i337, and Sprint SPH-L720 supported using CWM root method, use CWM method if you are going to install custom ROMs)
For GT-i9505, T-Mobile Galaxy S4 SGH-M919, Sprint Galaxy S4 SPH-L710, Canadia Galaxy S4 (Bell, Rogers, Telus), US Cellular Galaxy S4 SCH-R970 root method, see the TWRP Root Method instead.
You can use this root method on Windows, Mac, and Linux/Ubuntu.
This root method also just “gives you root”, does not install custom recovery so it is very easy to also unroot by using universal Android unroot method.
For rooting Galaxy S4 on Mac OSX, see full video tutorial here:
For rooting Galaxy S4 on Linux/Ubuntu, see full video tutorial here:

Step 5. If using Mac or Linux, skip this step as you don’t need to install drivers.  For Windows users, go to Device Manager on your computer and make sure you have something like “Samsung Android ADB Interface” or some type of “ADB Interface”.  If you don’t see it, you don’t have Galaxy S4 USB drivers installed, download and install Galaxy S4 Windows drivers.

Step 6. Download Motochopper.zip and unzip, you should find a bunch of files in it.
For Windows, double-click on “run.bat” to start the rooting script.

cd Downloads/motochopper
cd motochopper
chmod 755 *
sudo sh run.sh
